Here's the good news - I disagree with you. I thought the movie was highly affective. You see, I didn't know anything about the Hunger Games before I went to see it. When I came out I was such a fan I immediately bought all three books of the trilogy and read tham cover to cover in about three days. As impressed as I was by the movie before I read the book, I was even more impressed afterwards. I got almost all of the nuances in the relationship from one viewing of the film. I also didn't feel that the film (or the books for that matter) are any more violent than the video games so many kids are addicted to. And in this case, the child on child violence isn't gratiuous. It's the prime example of the Capitol's evilness.

I often stumble on the word "Stewardship" and wonder if it couldn't be more like sustainable living. Maybe we should just redeem the word stewardship, but I think you're getting at the same thing with the term that you have coupled with it, "Practical Living".

Hi Joanna, I've just been reading online about your book "Widening the circle." I've nearly finished writing a book called "Church in a Circle", inviting the established church to innovate and trial some of the ingredients which makes the simple church movement so powerful - starting with the act of sitting in a circle. It is born out of many years of ministry and involvement in simple church and established church groups; particularly a wonderful community of recovering drug addicts we are currently working with.

I've just started a blog at churchinacircle.com, if you want to read a little more. I'm keen to get a hold of your book and have a good read (in between parenting four kids and writing a book - who knows when I'll get the time!). I've had some Facebook friends comment positively on your book, so I'm wanting to know more.

Blessings,

Kathleen

Amen to what you've written here, Tyler. It's always seemed to me that the idea of thanking God for our blessings in an inequitable world can run the risk of suggesting the inequality is God-ordained. Its good to hear someone else raising these questions.

An interesting reflection. The same issue is very topic here in the UK with the 'Fresh Expressions' (i.e. Fresh Expressions of Church) movement. The issue I hear most often has to do with Communion, but I suspect it's probably about 'ordained' leadership. in my view it would be hugely liberating to opt for a radical congregationalism: the kind that sets people free to experiment and live Christian community for themselves. You're right - it does make some uncomfortable, but in these Post-Christendom times it is the way to go.

Oh wow. Matthew you once again, rock my world. It may not come with a melody behind it, but your words sing to me.
God is doing such an amazing work there and your words start to describe the quiet beauty that is found in the north, south and east of hearts there.
I'm a privileged to work with you.
